KARACHI: The Election Commission has also asked for police personnel for security at the returning officers and their offices.

In the letter written to the District Election Commissioner Korangi’s SSP, it has been stated that the process of submission of nomination papers for the general elections will begin from December 20.

The letter said that 3.3 policemen should be provided in the offices of all returning officers while 1.1 policemen should be provided to returning officers to avoid any untoward situation.

Meanwhile, the returning officers of Karachi’s 22 National Assembly and 47 Sindh Assembly seats started issuing nomination papers by issuing public notices. Nomination forms have also been started for women and reserved seats, after which nomination papers will be collected from December 20.

In 7 districts of Shahr Quaid, public notices were issued for the National Assembly and 69 seats of the Sindh Assembly, while the women and minority reserved seats, after which the candidates received hundreds of nomination papers from the offices of most of the returning officers.

According to the schedule, nomination forms can be received and submitted today from December 20 to December 22, the preliminary list of candidates will be released on December 23, the nomination papers will be scrutinized from January 24 to 30, appeals against the decisions of the returning officers. The last date for the appeals has been fixed as 3rd January 2024 while the decisions on these appeals will be taken by 10th January.
Then a revised list of candidates will be released on January 11, January 12 is the last date for withdrawal of candidates, while election symbols will be allotted on January 13.
