KARACHI (NNP) —
Two suspects have been arrested for supplying dead chicken meat in Karachi to catering centers, police confirmed on Wednesday.
The accused had reportedly been involved in this illegal activity for a long time, endangering public health.
Operation Conducted by Gulberg Police
According to Gulberg Police, the suspects were caught supplying dead chicken meat in Karachi near Musa Colony Railway Gate.
Officials revealed that the shopkeepers used to purchase chickens that died during transportation from poultry trucks and resell them to catering centers.
During the raid, police recovered 80 kilograms of dead chicken meat from their possession.
Unhealthy Meat Supplied to Catering Centers
Investigations showed that the unfit meat was distributed to several catering centers across FB Area and New Karachi, putting thousands at risk.
The suspects, identified as Anwar and Kamal, had been carrying out this act for an extended period.
“The accused were arrested during a targeted operation, and the seized meat has been destroyed,” said a Gulberg Police spokesperson.
Legal Action and Food Authority Investigation
A case has been registered at the Gulberg Police Station against the accused on the government’s complaint.
The Sindh Food Authority has launched an investigation into the matter to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents.
“Such crimes are punishable under food safety and public health laws,” the Sindh Food Authority official added.
