Loss of Life and Property Caused by Gul Plaza Fire Is Deeply Regrettable, Says Faisal Moez Khan
The loss of precious human lives and property caused by the fire at Gul Plaza has been termed deeply regrettable by Faisal Moez Khan, President of the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), who described the incident as a great tragedy for the city.
Speaking in Karachi on January 18, 2026, Faisal Moez Khan, along with Akhtar Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of the North Karachi Industrial Development and Management Company (NKIDMC), expressed profound grief and sorrow over the horrific fire that broke out at the shopping center Gul Plaza. They demanded that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah take notice of the negligence of the concerned institutions and initiate strict action against those responsible.

Gul Plaza Fire Incident Raises Serious Questions Over Evacuation
Faisal Moez Khan stated that the fire at Gul Plaza and the resulting loss of life and property is a major tragedy. Referring to Gul Plaza President Tanveer Pasha, he said that despite the shopping center having more than 20 entry and exit gates, the relevant authorities failed to evacuate people from the building in a timely manner.
He added that although firefighters carried out their duties with exceptional bravery, one firefighter lost his life during the rescue operation.
Strict Enforcement of Fire Safety Laws Urged
Highlighting the importance of preventive measures, Faisal Moez Khan emphasized that fire safety laws should not only exist on paper but must be strictly implemented in all commercial centers across Karachi.
He stressed that effective enforcement of safety regulations is essential to protect lives and property and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Call for Immediate Financial Assistance to Affected Traders
Faisal Moez Khan urged both the federal and provincial governments to provide immediate financial assistance to the affected shopkeepers so that they can restart their businesses before the holy month of Ramadan.
He specifically appealed to Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir, Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to come forward and support the affected traders.
Business Community Expresses Grief and Solidarity
Concluding his statement, Faisal Moez Khan said that the business community of Karachi and across Pakistan is deeply saddened by the loss of precious human lives in this tragic incident.
He expressed heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured who are currently undergoing treatment in the burns ward.
