
Gul Plaza Fire Incident Causes Heavy Financial and Human Losses, Says Zubair Tufail
Gul Plaza fire incident has been termed a great tragedy by Zubair Tufail, President of the United Business Group (UBG), who highlighted the severe financial and human losses caused by the devastating blaze at one of Karachi’s busiest commercial centers.
Speaking in Karachi on January 18, 2026, Zubair Tufail said that the fire at Gul Plaza on M.A. Jinnah Road exposed serious shortcomings in emergency response and safety arrangements. Due to the lack of timely action, six people, including a firefighter, lost their lives, while more than two dozen individuals sustained injuries.
Repeated Fire Incidents Raise Serious Concerns in Karachi
Zubair Tufail expressed deep concern over the repeated occurrence of fire incidents in Karachi, calling the situation alarming. He stated that such tragedies not only result in loss of precious lives but also destroy businesses built through years of hard work.
He stressed that the Sindh government must take immediate notice of the incident and ensure compensation for the affected shopkeepers and citizens of Gul Plaza, who have suffered massive financial losses.
Gul Plaza Fire Highlights Need for Strict Safety Measures
The UBG President emphasized that the victims of the Gul Plaza fire have lost their livelihoods, and their rehabilitation is the responsibility of the government. He called for strict implementation of fire safety laws and a fresh review of safety arrangements in commercial buildings across the city.
According to him, effective enforcement of safety regulations is essential to protect both lives and property and to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Call for Immediate Assistance to Affected Traders
Zubair Tufail urged the authorities to take all possible measures to safeguard citizens and provide maximum assistance to the affected traders and other victims. He demanded that both the federal and provincial governments ensure better medical facilities for the injured and extend immediate financial support to shopkeepers so that they can resume their businesses before Eid.
UBG Expresses Solidarity with Victims and Bereaved Families
Concluding his statement, Zubair Tufail said that the entire leadership of the United Business Group stands in solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic fire. He expressed heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
