Heavy Fines for Vehicles Without M-Tag After Dec 31

The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) has announced that no vehicles will be allowed to enter motorways without an M-tag from January 1.

In a social media post, NHMP stated, “No entry on motorways without an M-tag after December 31, 2023.”

The post further advised that for inquiries, citizens can contact the helpline at 1313.

M-Tag was rolled out as a convenience, which lets drivers pass through a toll plaza without sluggish old modes in which long queues were witnessed and people waited for a long time to pass the tolls, however several drivers with M-Tag entered these lanes which caused huge clogging.

National Highway and Motorway Police NHMP shared new updates, notifying that heavy fines will be slapped on vehicles traveling in the express lane without an M-Tag under Article 48 of the National Highways Safety Ordinance 2000.

Getting an M-Tag is easy. Just go to a Toll Plaza booth on the motorway with your ID, driver’s license, and car papers. They’ll give you the M-Tag for free. Stick it on the top right corner inside your car’s front window. To check your M-Tag, text “MTAG” and your ID number to 9909.

If you need more money on your M-Tag, you can do it in different ways like using scratch cards, Easy Paisa, Jazz Cash, U-Paisa, or the M-2 Customer Care Centre.

You can buy Rs. 200 or Rs. 500 scratch cards at motorway entry/exit points or resting areas. If you want to know how much money you have, text “Balance” and your M-Tag ID to 9909.
