NADRA officials involved in fake passport case

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has identified more officials of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) who were allegedly involved in issuing Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC) to Afghan citizens۔
The FIA investigation has entered the final stages, the responsible officials have been identified۔ Sources said that with the help of Pakistani families, it has been revealed that Pakistani identity cards have been issued in exchange for bribes to Afghan citizens۔
An investigation was started after the arrest of Majidullah, an Afghan citizen who tried to get a Pakistani passport۔
The investigation revealed that Majeedullah paid a bribe to get an identity card and revealed himself as a member of the family۔ FIA has already recorded the statements of the concerned NADRA officials and is ready to take action against the accused۔
Sources say that along with the progress in the investigation, more arrests are also expected۔
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior had directed to start legal action against Afghan citizens caught for possessing fake Pakistani passports and identity cards in Saudi Arabia۔
According to FIA sources, in the light of the instructions of the Ministry of Interior, the concerned authorities decided to issue notices to 12500 Afghan citizens under Section 18 of the NADRA Ordinance۔
FIA sources have revealed that fake Pakistani identity cards were issued to 593 Afghan citizens from Islamabad, while a total of 5500 Pakistani identity cards were issued from Quetta and Peshawar۔
