Nawaz “Cleared” to Contest NA Set in Mansehra

The nomination papers of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the NA-15 constituency in Mansehra have reportedly been approved by the returning officer, despite objections raised by PTI leader Azam Swati. Swati argued that Sharif, being disqualified for life by the Supreme Court, should not have had his nomination papers approved. However, the returning officer rejected the objections and cleared Nawaz Sharif’s papers.
In Lahore’s NA-122 constituency, objections were raised against the nomination papers of ex-PM Imran Khan based on his punishment in the Toshakhana case. The objector argued that the court had only suspended the sentence, not the conviction, and that the approver was not a voter in the constituency. Imran Khan’s counsel contested these claims, stating that the approver was initially registered as a voter but was removed due to delimitation on December 15. The lawyer asserted that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) could not punish anyone, and Articles 62 and 63 did not apply to the former PTI chairman.
In NA-127, objections were raised against PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s nomination papers, with the objector not being a registered voter in the constituency. The returning officer reserved the decision after hearing arguments. The PPP leaders present at the hearing expressed confidence that the objections would be set aside, emphasizing that the objector was not authorized under election rules to contest Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s papers, especially as a resident of Narowal objecting to a Lahore seat.
