NEPRA Renews K-Electric License

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA)… Electric’s Power Supply and Distribution License has been renewed for a period of 20 years. The renewal of this non-exclusive license predates the liberalization of the power sector. The non-exclusive license granted by Electric has been followed by an application.
K-Electric the 20-year license for electric cars will expire in July 2023. Then came the Nepalese. Electric was granted an interim distribution license for 6 months, which is set to expire in January 2024.
The decision to renew was taken after a comprehensive hearing which concluded on November 28, 2023. And now the Nepalese. Electric has been allowed to keep power supply in Karachi, Othal, Bela, Wandoor, Hub, Dhabeji and Gharo.
K۔ Electric is a publicly listed company. In 1913, the company was incorporated in Pakistan under the name KESE. K۔ ELECTRIC is Pakistan’s only vertically integrated utility, providing electricity to an area of 6,500 square kilometres, including Karachi and its adjoining areas. 66.4 percent of the company’s shares are listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), and owned by KSE Power. It is a consortium of investors, including Saudi Arabia’s Al-Jumu’ah Power Limited, Kuwait’s National Industries Group (Holding) and Infrastructure and Growth Capital Fund (IGCF). K-Electric the government of Pakistan also holds 24.36 per cent stake in Electric.
