Pakistan and US Strengthen Economic Cooperation
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States have agreed to enhance cooperation in the mining, minerals, and energy sectors, marking a renewed push toward economic partnership between the two countries.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs John Mark Pomeroy, according to an official statement issued by the Interior Ministry.
Focus on Investment and Security
During the meeting, the US official reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with Pakistan. He also condemned the recent terrorist incidents in Islamabad and Quetta and extended sympathies to the affected families.
Minister Naqvi welcomed potential American investment in Pakistan’s mining and energy industries, assuring that the government would provide a secure and supportive environment for US investors.
Counterterrorism and Regional Stability
Discussions also covered broader Pakistan–US bilateral relations and the evolving regional situation. Both sides explored ways to deepen cooperation in counterterrorism efforts, particularly in strengthening internal security mechanisms.
Naqvi emphasized that international collaboration remains vital in combating terrorism. He highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s partnership with the United States in addressing shared security challenges and encouraging foreign investment.
Expanding Strategic Engagement
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, and other senior officials.
Earlier this month, Pakistan participated in the inaugural Critical Minerals Ministerial hosted by the US State Department, reflecting Islamabad’s intent to attract foreign capital and build strategic alliances in the minerals and energy sectors.
