People in Sindh so far faced fewer rain-related problems in the current monsoon season: Saeed Ghani

Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Gani, has said that people so far have faced fewer problems in the rains in the province in the ongoing monsoon season.
The Local Government Minister stated this on Monday while speaking at the National flag hoisting ceremony at the building of Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry in connection with the Independence Day.
Speaking on the occasion, the Local Government Minister acknowledged that people had faced a few problems in recent monsoon rains. He conceded that roads in the city had been damaged due to recent rains but it would be unwise to immediately start their reconstruction because there is a forecast of more rains in Karachi. He told the audience that action would be taken against the relevant contractors responsible for substandard construction of roads.
Ghani said the Sindh government would do its best that the roads should remain free of accumulated rainwater so that there would be hindrance-free movement of transport. He warned that the problems of people would increase if monsoon rains intensified in Sindh.
The Local Government Minister told the audience that initially the cost of the K-IV bulk water supply system for Karachi was Rs 25 billion as the Sindh government had to pay its share of Rs 12.5 billion to build the project.
He said that the K-IV project comprised various components and encompassed a vast network. He said that later it was disclosed in the regime of Imran Khan that the cost of the K-IV project had escalated to Rs 75 billion while the work on the scheme remained suspended.
He said that at present work on three components of the K-IV project was being carried out simultaneously with support from the World Bank.
Ghani said the project of supplying 100 million gallons of water daily from Hub Dam to Karachi would be completed before the commissioning of the K-IV project. He said the completion of the Hub Dam canal project would go a long way in overcoming the water shortage in the city.
