October 8, 2025 — The federal government has introduced the Power Smart App, a new digital platform aimed at improving transparency and accountability in electricity billing across Pakistan. The initiative is part of the government’s campaign, “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” (Our Meter, Our Reading), which encourages consumers to actively monitor their energy usage and verify meter readings.
According to officials from the Ministry of Energy, the app enables electricity consumers to upload photographs of their meter readings directly to their respective distribution companies (DISCOs). These submissions will then be cross-checked against official records to ensure billing accuracy and prevent overcharging.
The system also provides details on subsidy eligibility, allowing consumers to confirm whether they qualify for government relief programs based on their monthly usage.
Energy Minister Awais Leghari, speaking at the launch ceremony, said the app reflects the government’s commitment to consumer empowerment and transparency within the power sector. He emphasized that citizen participation will play a key role in addressing long-standing complaints about inflated bills and inconsistent meter readings.
Officials said the app is available for download on Android and iOS devices and will soon be integrated with customer portals of all regional electricity distribution companies.
The Power Smart App is being hailed as a step toward greater digitalization and consumer engagement in Pakistan’s power sector — a move expected to build public trust and improve operational efficiency across the board.
