PSQCA Intensifies Crackdown on Substandard Products During Ramazan
Karachi, Pakistan – The Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) has expanded its enforcement operations across Punjab, targeting substandard and unlicensed products in Lahore and Faisalabad markets during the holy month of Ramazan. The initiative aims to safeguard public health and ensure consumer safety amid the increased demand for food and essential items.
This special enforcement drive follows PSQCA’s ongoing nationwide campaign against non-compliant products. Market monitoring teams have been deployed to ensure that only certified goods with valid Pakistan Standard Marks (PS Mark) reach consumers, reinforcing the authority’s commitment to quality and safety standards.
Targeted Operations in Lahore and Faisalabad
Under the directives of Director General PSQCA, Dr. Sayeda Zia Batool, the Conformity Assessment (CA) Lahore Zone teams, in collaboration with the District Administration, conducted operations at Township Sahulat Bazar, Lahore. Simultaneously, PSQCA’s Faisalabad Liaison Office carried out raids in local markets to verify compliance of industrial and consumer goods with mandatory Pakistan Standards. Numerous items, including spices, dairy products, cooking oil, and personal care goods, were removed from shelves for lacking the required PS Mark or certification license.
Notices were issued to shopkeepers and stallholders instructing immediate cessation of unlicensed sales, emphasizing that violations are punishable under the PSQCA Act, 1996.
Ensuring Consumer Safety and Awareness
A PSQCA spokesperson highlighted that public health and safety will not be compromised. “Our enforcement teams are actively monitoring markets to ensure compliant products reach consumers, especially during Ramazan. Citizens are urged to check the PS Mark and License Number on product labels before purchasing,” the spokesperson added.
The Authority has also encouraged the public to report suspected counterfeit or uncertified products. This drive underscores PSQCA’s continued commitment to fostering a “Quality Culture” and protecting consumers nationwide.
A Leading Authority in Consumer Protection
PSQCA operates as Pakistan’s premier body for enforcing quality standards across industrial and consumer goods, ensuring compliance with national and international safety benchmarks. Its nationwide initiatives, such as this Ramazan crackdown, reflect ongoing dedication to public welfare and quality assurance.
