Rybakina Reigns at Brisbane International 2024

Elena Rybakina secured her ninth WTA singles title in Brisbane, defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the 2024 final.

The world No.4 completed a flawless campaign, marking her sixth title and third on a hard court.

This victory in Australia follows her Hobart trophy win in 2020. Rybakina’s 6-0, 6-3 triumph over the reigning Australian Open champion ended Sabalenka’s impressive 15-match win streak in Australia.

Despite trailing 2-5 in their head-to-head record entering the Brisbane final, Rybakina reversed their recent history.

While their previous matches, including the 2023 Australian Open final, often extended to three sets, the Brisbane final was a different story.

Rybakina dominated, swiftly securing the first set in just 24 minutes. Sabalenka managed to get on the scoreboard in the second set, but Rybakina’s efficient play, controlled power, and trademark composure led to a near-perfect victory.

Rybakina, who had only dropped 10 games in the tournament before the final, completed her victory in an hour and 13 minutes. Reflecting on the match, she acknowledged the tightness of the games and emphasized that the score didn’t fully represent the challenges faced during the match.
