Satya Pal Malik Slams Modi Over Pahalgam Attack, Calls for Public Apology

In a bold and emotionally charged statement, former Jammu & Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has demanded an open apology from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, calling the government’s response both “irresponsible and insensitive.”

“This was not just a security failure — it was a moral failure. The Prime Minister must apologise to the nation,” said Malik during an interview on Monday.

The Pahalgam Incident – A National Tragedy

On May 5, 2025, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a convoy of Hindu pilgrims in the scenic valley of Pahalgam, leaving 26 dead and dozens injured. The horrific event has shocked the entire region and raised major concerns over intelligence lapses and security preparedness in a highly sensitive zone.

While the Indian government swiftly blamed Pakistan-based elements, Satya Pal Malik questioned the failure of domestic intelligence agencies and the central government’s overconfidence in handling Kashmir’s fragile peace.

Malik’s Criticism – A Rare Voice from Within

Satya Pal Malik, who has previously served under the BJP government, is not new to criticizing Modi’s Kashmir policy — but this time, his tone was sharper than ever.

He stated that:

  • Security gaps were ignored despite recent warnings

  • Common citizens are paying the price for Delhi’s “image politics”

  • The government is “using tragedy to shift blame externally” instead of introspecting

His remarks sparked both praise and backlash on social media, with many calling him “brave,” while others accused him of “playing into the enemy’s narrative.”

Why This Statement Matters

Malik’s statement stands out because he is not a political outsider. His insider knowledge of Kashmir and close dealings with both central and regional security apparatus lend credibility and weight to his criticism.

Moreover, in an environment where opposition voices are often muted or sidelined, such a frank demand for accountability from a former constitutional head is hard to ignore.

Final Thoughts

As India processes the pain of the Pahalgam attack, Malik’s call for a public apology from the Prime Minister adds a new layer of political pressure — one that demands not just action, but also acknowledgement of failure.
