February 11, 2025 — The Sindh Culture and Tourism Department has launched the Thar Desert Train Safari, a new travel experience offering a scenic journey through the desert landscapes, culture, and villages of Tharparkar. The safari train operates between Karachi and Khokhrapar, blending sightseeing with curated cultural activities.
Travel Itinerary
Day 1 (Saturday)
- Departure from Karachi Cantt Station at 10:00 AM
- Arrival at Chhor (Parchi Jeveri) around 5:00 PM
- Evening activities include desert camping, traditional music performances, bonfires, and a Thari-style dinner beneath the stars.
Day 2 (Sunday)
- The train departs Chhor at 7:00 AM, reaching Khokhrapar Zero Point by 8:30 AM.
- Passengers enjoy breakfast and sightseeing at the border region.
- Return journey begins at 11:00 AM, with arrival in Karachi expected around 6:00 PM.
Ticket Price and Booking Details
According to the Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC), the ticket price for the Thar Desert Train Safari is Rs 30,000 per adult. Reservations can be made directly through the STDC’s official website.
Train Facilities
The safari features modern amenities, including:
- Two Business Class coaches with seating for 108 passengers in total
- A Dining Car serving meals and refreshments during the journey
- A Power Van to support electrical and onboard systems
