Malik Khuda Bakhsh Emphasizes Importance of LPG Safety
Convener of the Standing Committee on Energy of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Malik Khuda Bakhsh, has warned that gas leakages can lead to serious accidents, resulting in financial losses and threats to human life.
Speaking at the second meeting of the Standing Committee on Energy for 2026, he stressed that effective LPG Safety measures are essential to prevent accidents and ensure public protection. He noted that modern monitoring technologies can play a critical role in improving safety standards.
The meeting was attended by several industry representatives, including Ali Haider, Mutahir Salam, Afaq Ali Khan, Nisar A. Latif, Afza Sultana, Naseem Abbasi, Zulfiqar Ahmed Siddiqui, Shah Kamal, and Zahid Ghumman.
Smart Technology Can Improve LPG Safety
Malik Khuda Bakhsh stated that LPG cylinders have become an essential part of daily life, making it increasingly important for consumers to monitor gas consumption and remaining fuel levels.
He explained that smart monitoring devices can help users track gas usage, detect leakages, and arrange timely cylinder replacements. Such systems can significantly strengthen LPG Safety by reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring uninterrupted supply.
According to him, adopting advanced monitoring solutions can help consumers make informed decisions while improving household and commercial safety.
Energy Committee Discusses Regional and Energy Issues
During the meeting, Malik Khuda Bakhsh also commented on regional developments, stating that there appears to be potential for easing tensions between Iran and the United States, although recurring disputes continue to threaten long-term stability.
He praised Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif for their efforts in reducing the risk of conflict and supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting peace.
He added that the international community continues to hope for a lasting resolution to regional tensions.
Concerns Raised Over Proposed Solar Energy Tax
Referring to reports regarding the upcoming federal budget, Malik Khuda Bakhsh expressed concerns over a proposed 18 percent tax on solar energy equipment.
He said the committee had recommended maintaining the tax rate at 10 percent to ensure consumers continue to benefit from affordable alternative energy solutions.
According to him, encouraging renewable energy adoption remains important for reducing energy costs and supporting sustainable development.
Expanding the Tax Net Should Be a Priority
Malik Khuda Bakhsh also urged policymakers to focus on broadening the tax base rather than increasing the burden on existing taxpayers.
He warned that excessive taxation could negatively affect businesses and potentially force some enterprises to shut down, ultimately reducing government revenues.
He emphasized that balanced economic policies are necessary to support both business growth and revenue generation.
Advanced LPG Safety System Introduced
Speaking at the meeting, Mutahir Salam highlighted the risks associated with LPG leakage, noting that the highly flammable nature of the fuel makes early detection essential.
He explained that a newly introduced LPG Safety system incorporates advanced sensors capable of quickly identifying gas leaks and notifying users or relevant authorities through integrated communication modules.
The system also includes a load cell that continuously measures the amount of gas remaining inside a cylinder. When gas levels fall below a designated threshold, a GSM module automatically alerts users so they can arrange a replacement cylinder in time.
In the event of a gas leak, installed sensors trigger safety measures designed to minimize risks and prevent accidents.
LPG Safety Essential for Retail Stations and Consumers
Ali Haider stated that inadequate maintenance and a lack of public awareness remain among the leading causes of gas leak incidents.
He stressed that timely leak detection is critical for preventing accidents and protecting lives and property.
According to him, the monitoring system has been specifically designed for LPG retail stations and combines accurate fuel dispensing, automation, electronic controls, and enhanced safety features. The objective is to improve operational efficiency, strengthen inventory management, and enhance transaction security while promoting higher LPG Safety standards across the sector.
Industry Calls for Greater Adoption of Safety Technology
Participants at the meeting agreed that modern monitoring and detection systems can significantly improve LPG Safety and reduce the likelihood of dangerous incidents.
They emphasized that greater awareness, improved maintenance practices, and wider adoption of smart safety technologies will be essential for protecting consumers, enhancing operational reliability, and strengthening safety standards throughout Pakistan’s LPG sector.
