PPDA Thanks Maryam Nawaz for Prompt Action

KARACHI (October 24, 2026): The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has expressed gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for taking prompt action following an incident involving alleged misconduct and assault against an employee at a petrol station in Lahore.

In a letter addressed to the chief minister, PPDA Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh appreciated her timely intervention, saying it had helped restore confidence among petroleum dealers and petrol pump employees.

The association highlighted the importance of protecting frontline workers who are responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations at petrol stations. It said employees must be able to perform their duties without facing misconduct when requesting customers to follow established safety procedures.

PPDA Highlights Lahore Petrol Pump Incident

According to the letter, the incident took place at Shell Master Fuel Hub in Jubilee Town, Lahore. An individual travelling in a black Prado vehicle was reportedly asked to stop smoking inside the vehicle while at the petrol station.

The individual allegedly responded by physically assaulting and verbally abusing the petrol pump employee. Four women were also present in the vehicle, according to the account provided by the association.

The PPDA said the employee had acted in the interest of public safety by requesting compliance with the prescribed safety regulations. The association expressed concern that an employee carrying out routine professional responsibilities had allegedly faced misconduct in response to the request.

The letter brought attention to the challenges faced by petrol pump staff when enforcing safety procedures and dealing with customers at service stations.

Petrol Pump Employees Play an Important Safety Role

PPDA Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh stressed that petrol pump employees have a responsibility to help ensure compliance with prescribed safety regulations to protect customers, workers and the general public.

According to the association, smoking and the use of mobile phones at petrol stations can increase the risk of fire and other serious accidents. Employees therefore have an important role in reminding customers to observe applicable safety precautions.

The association maintained that asking customers to comply with such rules is part of employees’ professional responsibilities. It said workers performing these duties should receive appropriate protection and should not have to face intimidation or alleged assault for raising safety concerns.

The incident has, according to the PPDA, highlighted the importance of safeguarding the dignity and security of petroleum dealers’ employees while they carry out their work.

Maryam Nawaz’s Intervention Welcomed by Petroleum Dealers

Malik Khuda Bakhsh appreciated Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s prompt response and action regarding the reported incident.

He said petroleum dealers across Pakistan had welcomed her intervention, which the association believes helped improve the morale of frontline employees and restore their confidence.

Petrol pump workers continue to carry out duties related to public safety, often requiring them to remind customers about compliance with station regulations. The PPDA stressed that their efforts should be recognised and that employees should be able to perform their responsibilities in a secure working environment.

The association’s appreciation also underscored the importance it places on timely action by the relevant authorities when incidents involving the safety and dignity of petrol pump employees are reported.

PPDA Seeks Meeting with Punjab Chief Minister

In the letter, Malik Khuda Bakhsh conveyed the desire of the PPDA’s senior leadership to meet Maryam Nawaz Sharif in person.

The association’s leadership wishes to thank the chief minister for her timely intervention and discuss matters concerning the safety, welfare and protection of petroleum dealers and frontline employees.

Such engagement would provide an opportunity for the association to raise concerns affecting petrol pump operators and their staff, particularly those relating to enforcement of safety regulations and protection of employees while on duty.

The PPDA emphasised that the welfare of petroleum dealers and petrol pump employees remains an important concern for the association, especially where workers are required to enforce rules designed to protect the public.

PPDA Calls for Effective Implementation of Safety Regulations

The association stressed the need for continued measures to ensure effective implementation of safety regulations at petrol stations.

It said compliance with safety procedures is essential to reducing risks and protecting people at fuel stations. Employees responsible for communicating these requirements must also be protected against misconduct while carrying out their duties.

The PPDA’s letter highlighted the relationship between public safety, employee protection and the effective enforcement of petrol station regulations. The association called attention to the need for a working environment in which frontline staff can perform their responsibilities with confidence.

The reported incident at Shell Master Fuel Hub in Lahore has renewed the association’s emphasis on employee welfare and the importance of responding appropriately when allegations of misconduct arise.

Petroleum Dealers Emphasise Staff Welfare and Public Safety

The PPDA’s message to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif focused on appreciation for her reported intervention and the need to maintain attention on the protection of petroleum dealers and petrol pump employees.

Malik Khuda Bakhsh reiterated the importance of safeguarding workers who ask customers to follow safety precautions and of ensuring that safety regulations are implemented effectively at petrol stations.

The association also expressed its desire for further engagement with the chief minister to discuss the welfare and protection of industry employees.

Through its letter, the PPDA highlighted the need for continued cooperation and practical measures to support workplace safety, protect frontline workers and maintain compliance with the regulations intended to safeguard the public.
