The UBL Hackathon officially commenced at the National Incubation Center (NIC) Karachi, bringing together innovators from across Pakistan to develop next-generation solutions for the country’s financial, banking, and payments ecosystem.
Organized by NIC Karachi, an Ignite-funded initiative under the Ministry of IT & Telecom, in collaboration with United Bank Limited (UBL), the UBL National Innovation Hackathon 2026 features a 72-hour innovation challenge with a grand prize of Rs5 million.
UBL Hackathon Brings Together Innovation Talent
The UBL Hackathon has attracted 25 teams representing students, startups, software professionals, researchers, innovators, and technology enthusiasts from across Pakistan.
Beyond the competition, the initiative is designed to serve as a platform for identifying promising ideas and supporting participants through mentorship and incubation. High-potential teams will receive guidance to refine their concepts into scalable, market-ready solutions capable of shaping the future of digital finance in Pakistan.
UBL Encourages Customer-Centric FinTech Solutions
Addressing participants during the opening ceremony, Abdur Rehman, Head of Creative Technology at UBL, encouraged teams to focus on solving genuine customer challenges.
He said the hackathon offers an opportunity for experimentation, collaboration, and learning while emphasizing the increasing role of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics in transforming financial services.
He also noted that UBL considers innovation a key pillar of its digital transformation strategy and looks forward to supporting ideas that can contribute to the future of banking in Pakistan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Syed Azfar Hussain, Project Director at NIC Karachi, described the UBL Hackathon as a platform that brings together students, entrepreneurs, researchers, software houses, and technology professionals to address real-world challenges facing Pakistan’s financial sector.
He said the collaboration between NIC Karachi and UBL aims to identify exceptional talent, encourage meaningful partnerships, and provide innovators with mentorship, industry exposure, and the resources required to transform ideas into impactful products.
According to him, the initiative also marks the beginning of a longer innovation journey through the UBL-powered FinTech Lab, where promising teams will continue refining their solutions and preparing them for real-world deployment.
