Heatwave Alert Issued as Karachi Temperature May Reach 43°C
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Karachi Heatwave is expected to intensify over the coming days after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a nationwide heatwave alert, warning of significantly rising temperatures across several regions, including the country’s largest city.

According to the PMD, Karachi could experience temperatures of up to 43°C between June 8 and June 12, while high humidity levels may make conditions feel even hotter and more uncomfortable for residents.

Karachi Heatwave Expected to Intensify

The Karachi Heatwave is forecast to strengthen beginning today, with meteorologists predicting a steady increase in temperatures throughout the warning period.

Officials have cautioned that humidity levels will likely increase the “feels like” temperature, creating challenging conditions for people who spend extended periods outdoors.

Weather experts warn that the combination of extreme heat and humidity could significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.

PMD Issues Nationwide Heatwave Alert

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a nationwide advisory covering the period from June 7 to June 12.

The warning highlights the possibility of unusually high temperatures in multiple regions of the country, with Karachi among the cities expected to face severe weather conditions.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to stay informed through official weather updates.

Health Risks During Karachi Heatwave

Health experts have warned that the Karachi Heatwave may pose serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups.

Children, women, senior citizens, and individuals with pre-existing medical conditions are considered most at risk from prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures.

Medical professionals caution that excessive heat can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke if proper precautions are not taken.

Citizens Advised to Avoid Peak Sunlight Hours

Residents have been advised to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, particularly between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., when temperatures are expected to reach their highest levels.

Experts recommend limiting unnecessary outdoor activities during these hours and seeking shaded or air-conditioned environments whenever possible.

People traveling outdoors are encouraged to carry water and take regular breaks to prevent heat-related complications.

Precautionary Measures Recommended by Authorities

To reduce the risks associated with the Karachi Heatwave, authorities have urged residents to adopt several preventive measures.

Citizens are advised to:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing.
  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
  • Stay in shaded or cool areas whenever possible.
  • Monitor vulnerable family members, including children and the elderly.

Officials stress that early precautions can significantly reduce the likelihood of heat-related illnesses.

Special Advice for Outdoor Workers

Health experts have also issued guidance for individuals who work outdoors, including laborers, delivery personnel, traffic wardens, and construction workers.

They recommend taking frequent breaks, remaining hydrated, and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight whenever possible.

Employers have been encouraged to ensure adequate safety measures for workers during periods of extreme heat.

Public Awareness Key to Heatwave Safety

Authorities have emphasized that public awareness and preparedness are critical as Karachi prepares for several days of intense summer weather.

Officials are encouraging residents to closely follow weather forecasts, heed safety advisories, and take immediate action if symptoms of heat exhaustion or heatstroke appear.

With temperatures expected to remain elevated throughout the alert period, experts say community cooperation and preventive measures will be essential in minimizing the impact of the Karachi Heatwave and protecting public health.
